E Source information services provide member organizations with unbiased, independent analysis of energy markets, services, and technologies. Our clients include electric and gas utilities and other energy service providers, large corporate and institutional energy users, government agencies, energy service companies, manufacturers, consultants, research institutions, and other organizations in nearly two dozen countries worldwide.
We have an opening in our Boulder, Colorado, office for an energy supply researcher to help save commercial, industrial, and government energy buyers significant sums on energy supply and total procurement costs via our portfolio of energy management and procurement services called PowerTools.
We want someone who has a strong interest in energy, a passion for research, wants to conduct web and phone research, and who is or wants to become an expert in U.S. and Canadian electric and gas utility regulations, rates, tariff models, market rules, and public utility commission actions. Research and analysis projects will address different aspects of energy supply.
We’re looking for someone with a background or keen interest in energy, strong communication skills, web-based research skills, and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. You’ll be working independently and as part of a group, so being a self-starter and a team player are both essential. Experience or interest in utility tariff analysis is a significant plus.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Research U.S. and Canadian electric and gas utility regulations, rates, tariff models, market rules, and public utility commission actions via the telephone and Internet to populate and maintain a web-based data system.
- Handle ongoing data acquisition and entry, as well as periodic requests for data retrieval.
- Work with E Source team members to facilitate access to and use of information.
- Assist in researching solutions to improve databases, online tools, and client deliverables.
- Assist team members with client inquiries.
- Demonstrate progress in gaining an understanding of our audience and develop subject-matter expertise in relevant fields. Then remain current on utility- and energy-industry developments, including political, economic, technological, and regulatory issues.
- Show consistent attention to detail and meet required deadlines.
- Perform effectively as an individual and as a cooperative and effective member of a team serving multiple internal/external clients.
- Develop or contribute to responses to Member Inquiries, providing complete and accurate information that generates a positive customer response.
- Perform research, analysis, and other related tasks as requested by manager.
Qualifications
- College degree required.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in web-based research or in the energy or utility industry.
- Excellent research skills, including the ability to use the Internet to conduct research. Experience with or knowledge of automated approaches and query languages for Internet research is a plus.
- Strong writing and communications skills and the ability to summarize complex information in a succinct and understandable form.
- Attention to detail and the ability to find inconsistencies among large amounts of data.
- Ability to summarize and document research in a web-based system.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web browsers. Knowledge of SharePoint is a plus.
- Ability to work and multitask on several projects at once, completing all necessary assignments within time budgets and on deadline.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Production Artist, Creative Services
Full time, regular (#400-05)
We’re seeking an experienced and talented design professional whose skills range from creative concepting to production layout for both online and print projects. This individual must be able to contribute their creativity, and at the same time, focus on ways to improve our internal processes. The primary responsibility for this position will be production-related and involve publishing our core spectrum of deliverables. However, there will also be opportunities for this person to help concept and design new ways to deliver our content and new ways to market our services. Since our web site is the primary delivery vehicle for the majority of our content, it is essential for the successful candidate to possess and be able to demonstrate the software and coding skills listed in the Qualifications section.
As a member of the department’s Content Group, you’ll work closely with other production artists and report to the Production Manager. We also support a strong team environment, and you’ll be expected to work collaboratively with everyone in the department as well as with our internal and external clients. Because our production processes must work seamlessly with our ever-evolving web infrastructure, you’ll also be working closely with the department’s Web Development Group. As we change and improve upon the ways we deliver web site content, the Production team will have opportunities for collaborating on web and user interface design. Also, as we explore and add more multimedia elements for our site members to experience, there will be opportunities to work on audio and video projects in addition to or enhancing our core content.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with project editors to create and make corrections to illustrations and layouts using illustration and layout software.
- Use designated document templates to lay out a variety of company products.
- Follow established production and illustration processes and procedures.
- Work effectively in a team environment and with multiple internal and external clients.
- Make decisions independently to ensure quality and timely project delivery.
- Prepress file preparation and quality assurance for delivery of files to our Fulfillment department for print projects.
- Perform other production, design, and web-related tasks as requested by manager.
- Work closely with the Editorial team to coordinate schedules, improve procedures, and keep design and layout standards in synch across the Editorial and Production teams.
- Help create web designs that improve the user experience on our web site and in e-mails to our members.
- Demonstrate flexibility and ingenuity in problem-solving; offer ideas for innovation within the Production team and across the internal client groups we serve.
- Stay abreast of changes in web and print technologies, techniques, and best practices; the production staff should be using the most efficient tools and software/systems for every deliverable, web page, and marketing piece while maintaining effective design.
- Maintain awareness of E Source business strategies and priorities to ensure that projects are aligned with the overall strategy of the company and that of the Creative Services group.
Qualifications
Web design and digital portfolio samples are required. Candidates will be asked to provide links to online samples or web sites.
- Two- or four-year degree, preferably in Graphic Design, Web Design, or Multimedia.
- Minimum of two years experience—specifically in the areas of web site design and production and printed pieces/collateral.
- Experience in publishing content, developing and presenting creative concepts, developing web mock-ups, and doing actual design in various formats for web (HTML/CSS), e-mail, print, and multimedia delivery.
- Extensive experience using web and desktop publishing/imaging software applications such as the Adobe CS 3/4 Pro Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Acrobat) and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- An in-depth understanding of HTML and CSS (demonstrated by the ability to hand-code and troubleshoot HTML/CSS) and the capabilities of web browsers are essential.
- Ability to produce div-based HTML layouts/pages is a must.
- Ability to investigate, learn, and implement new technologies and procedures that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our production processes.
- Must be detail-oriented in order to apply the many design and administrative requirements within the production process to catch and correct errors when reviewing files, code, or proofs.
- Strong organization and computer skills and the ability to work on Mac- and Windows-based machines.
- A strong working knowledge of the following would be very beneficial: web content management systems such as Drupal, audio/video editing and production software and processes, Adobe Flash or Flex design/development, PHP/MySQL familiarity, Quark Express experience, information design and information graphics expertise, and a basic understanding of XML.
