Since 2018, the International Wildfire Risk Mitigation Consortium has been a pivotal platform for sharing innovative practices and insights from utilities across Australia and North America. This three plus day event in Phoenix serves as the culminating event for our year-round activities, offering a space to document learning, set forthcoming goals, and network with industry leaders.
Exclusive Site Visit
- The Arizona landscape is diverse, and the APS service territory covers from the Sonoran Desert to the Alpine mountains. Much of Arizona has a fire dependent ecosystem, but the Sonoran Desert is not fire dependent. We will be visiting an area where fire historically was not an issue; however, invasive grasses and significant population growth have created a complex WUI (Wildland Urban Interface).
- We will visit a site in North Scottsdale where wildfire has changed the landscape and APS’ utility operations. We’ll hear from ecologists and fire managers about the challenges of preventing and fighting fires in the desert.
- Read more about how the Sonoran Desert is changing here.
