Our UCRC legacy series creates a space for recently retired executives to reflect on their careers and share the lessons they learned along the way. As an industry, we need to pass knowledge on to the next generation of utility leaders. Jim West, former VP and chief customer officer (CCO) at Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW), will be our first guest.

Jim West is now happily retired after a 40-year career in the utility sector. Most recently, he was VP and CCO at MLGW, the nation’s largest three-service public utility. Before that, he was assistant general manager at Snohomish County PUD, where he also served as board chair for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and board member for the Alliance to Save Energy. For more than 20 years, Jim held senior positions in energy efficiency, renewable energy, R&D, and human resources with the Tennessee Valley Authority. Jim is a graduate of Leadership Memphis and holds a BS in economics and an MBA from the University of Tennessee.
